Beverly police officers were called to the Delacove Homes public complex about 10:15 p.m. on a report of a shooting, according to Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina and Beverly City Public Safety Director Rich Wolbert.
Patrol officers found a bystander performing CPR on Octavius Williams, who had been shot in the chest by gunfire, Coffina and Wolbert said.
Williams was taken by EMS to Virtua Willingboro Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about an hour after the shooting, Coffina and Wolbert said.
Williams was not a resident of Delacove Homes, located along the Delaware River waterfront.
Burlington County Medical Examiner Dr. Ian Hood was expected to perform an autopsy, they said.
No arrests had been made and no weapons were recovered.
Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call Burlington County Central Communications at 609-265-7113, or email tips@co.burlington.nj.us.
The lead investigators are BCPO Detective Danielle Hann and Beverly City Officer-in-Charge Sgt. Theresa Matthews.
